Why would someone interview you twice, the reason doesn't seem to make sense?

Resolved Question

Why would someone interview you twice, the reason doesn't seem to make sense?

Hiya, I had an interview today which went very well. The lady told me that usually they interview people with two people in the room, and because the other person wasn't in she had to interview me alone & I'll be invited back for a 2nd interview with the person there...

Why interview me twice when they could just wait for the 2nd person to be available and interview me then, once? I don't mind as they're nice people I was just wondering if there could be a reason for this? Xx

Additional Details

Jessy, you make sense haha. Great answers from everyone Thanks guys Xx

Hiring someone is a little like getting married. You want to be careful if you are the one doing the hiring (because when you fire someone...you have to admit that they probably shouldn't have been hired in the first place...usually). I might interview you and see things in you that are good and bad. Someone else might interview you and see things that I overlooked. When we compare notes we have a much better idea about you and can feel better about hiring you. Or feel better about not hiring you. But having someone come back 2 or 3 times is a good idea.

By the way, I've had to go back for 2nd interviews myself. The nice thing about them is that if they are going to even bother with a 2nd interview it's because they already have a pretty good idea that they want you. But be on guard and treat it as if it was a first interview.

  • Often employers 'weed out' candidates and re interview the best. Some people are a bit more nervous at the first interview and can let themselves down a bit - but pick it up when they think they are closer to the job. Others are good at a first interview and seem perfect - but at a second interview can show their true colours and be bolshy or over confident.

Be glad that you have got through the first round and be yourself again for the next. Answer questions honestly and hopefully they will think you are the one for them. Good Luck hope you get the job.
  • Because one is probably the supervisor and the other one is the manager or owner..and one or the other wants to know who they are going to hire. And be able to OK it..does that make sense?
  • sounds a bit odd, but you will just have to be as nice when you go back good luck
