Go to the job centre and say you want to sign on as unemployed seeking employment. They will advise.

- I would really doubt it. In the USA, you need to be involuntarily unemployed (meaning layed off) and you need to be actively seeking employment. You don't meet the first of those two qualifications.
I'm sure there's a filing deadline you've missed as well. - Cant see how you would qualify for Income or Contribution based benefits due to the time gap.
Youll probably fall under the Tax credit legislation. - Suggest that you go to your local job centre , and get advice from there....Good Luck
- You need to go to your local Job centre and inquire there.
