Resolved Question
The line-manager shouted at some of my colleagues.?
They were throwing old boxes on the floor when he told them not to. One of my colleagues said to the line-manager "You can talk to your children like that, you don't talk to me like that, who the hell do you think you are". Who is in the wrong here?

You're colleagues attitude is tantamount to insubordination, and they should expect disciplinary action against them for responding to a manager in that fashion.
Whatever the reason the manager had to give the order, it was clearly not unreasonable, so your colleagues should simply have accepted the instruction, and got on with doing what they are told.
