How much notice do I have to give?

Resolved Question

How much notice do I have to give?

I've been offered a new job at a new store opening and I'm unsure how much notice I have to give at my current employment. I'm currently on a 5 hour contract and I've written up a letter of resignation but I need to know when I can leave so I can add the date to it.

if you mean 5 hours in one week, 1 weeks notice is all you need to give.

  • I depends on company policies, all companies are different so you need to check what their policy on notice is. Its usually 2-4 weeks notice. But its best to check, If u cant check I would just say 4 weeks notice as it wont be any more than that, plus it will keep them happy!
  • Legally, you are not required to give any notice. However, I would think that two weeks would definitely be enough to keep your current employer happy considering your position and hours of work.
  • It should be in your contract of employment. If you don't have that, phone the HR department and ask them. Usually it's one month.
  • It should be detailed in your written contract of employment. If you are paid monthly, it is usually one month.
  • Most employers require between 2 & 4 weeks notice when leaving.
  • i have found out over the years that if you get paid weekly then you give 7 days . monthly paid 30 days notice. they may even let you go before if you talk to them
  • if you can, 2 wks is usually a good time to give..if not. 1 wk.
