HELP! what do you make of this?

ok let me just explain
I just applied for a cleaning job on gumtree (desperate times right now).
it stated they wanted someone young and fit. to clean a family house... they also said to attach a photo.

So today.. I received an email from them,
I coppied part of the email here...

"I liked your email and what you said, I had soo many repies and I have reduced it down to a few and you are one of them. If yo have found another job in the meantime, then it's my loss and well done......do let me know.

I hope you are well and all is OK for you.

Looking forward to hearing from you....and have a lovely day anyway....

must say it sounds a little too friendly

Why would they want a photo anyway,
its not as if it's for a modelling job,and why do you need to be 'young'
that's against the law anyway

Just go in with your eyes wide open, just in case it turns out to be dodgy
and ask lots of questions

  • I wouldn't trust it, seems fishy to me and a bit too personal for just employment. I'd be careful and probably not even take the job...tough times but you don't want other problems on your hands! After all who asks for a photo for a cleaning job?

  • It does sound a bit fishy, however, since they are not a business, they are just a person who is hiring to have their house cleaned, it may be a bit more informal. They may want to see a photo just to see what the person looks like, if they think someone looks like a criminal or something, they may not want them in their house. But, the fact that they want someone young is a bit odd unless they mean that they want the person to be young so that way they won't be expecting as much money per hour. If you do decide to meet with this person on cleaning their house - be careful. I wouldn't go over to their house, I'd try to do the face to face interview in a public place (maybe a starbucks or something).
  • Hi,
It does sound a bit iffy doesn't it?
I suppose the nature of the job and the fact it's through a classified ad means that you're dealing direct with people so it explains why it might be a bit more informal but why do they need a photo anyway? Also, how much info did they require about your previous cleaning experience or any other relevant questions to the job?

If you're after a cleaning job, why not approach a contract cleaning company who at least vet customers before sending cleaners out to jobs.
