Resolved Question
How can I politely decline a job offer?
I have just been offered a job but it turns out that the hours they are offering me are completely unsuitable for me as a lone parent.
How can I decline their offer without causing offence? Do I have to explain why I am declining or can I do it without going into too much detail?
Any tips?
Thank you!

DONAL & ANGEL, THANK YOU. Most helpful response so far.
In response to other answers, yes I was aware of the possible hours that were on offer. However, my availability was also provided to the Company and they were fully aware of my situation before they offered my hours which do not overlap at all with the hours I am able to work.

Dear .......,
Thank you very much for offering me the position of ......... with ........... It was a very difficult decision to make, but, following deliberations on two positions I have accepted a position with another company.
I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to interview me and to share information on the opportunity and your company. I also apologise for any time wasted and inconvenience caused as a result.
Again, thank you for your consideration
(Nice to be nice!!!)

- Either phone them up or send them a letter saying
"I thank you for the oppertunity of working at ******* but I am afraid I will hae to decline the job offer as the hours I have been offered do not fit around my shedule, appologies for any inconvenince caused, thanks again
yours *******" - did you not know the hours of the job you were applying for in the first instance?!?! seems a bit odd, but anyway in answer to your question just reply that the hours are unsuitable in your current position! simple really love
- Go see the manager and explain your situation. Do not phone them.
- REPLY TO Donal: Nice reply mate. as you say it's always nice to be nice, as you may want another job there in the future!
- Just say no. The girls round here have no problem with that.
- go and find the interviewer and punch them in the face.
then say YOU LOSE MUTHERF****A.
i'm sure they will get the hint.
