Can I get some career advice please?

Resolved Question

Can I get some career advice please?

Im in high school, S4, Scotland. Next month we'll be choosing our higher subjects and I still don't have a career in mind. I was wondering, using the following points about me, someone could suggest ideas or even areas where I could get a job, or study to get that job.
The standard grades I chose were, maths, english, french, history, media studies, computing, biology and chemistry.
I definitely don't want to continue with history and chemistry.
I wanted to work with animals for a long time, something like guide dog training but I went off that. It was then I became interested in learning braille and sign language, and I would like to start self teaching myself that if I find a use for it eg. my career path
After I had chosen my standard grade subjects I became interested in interior design also- tv shows like '60 minute makeover' and room design. However I'm concerned I might not be able to get into that because I didn't take art or design technology. I'm also a little interested in photography.
I don't mind computing and Im quite good at it but I dont want to be sitting in front of a computer for half my life. Media studies is fun (analysis of film work), but I hate acting so I suppose if I went for this path I would work backstage.
So basically my problems are that I've become interested in subjects that I didn't take, I don't know what to continue with because I cant see a career- any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Dont worry too much about having to have a 'Career path' mapped out at your age.
Take subjects that really interest you. In doing so you will be motivated to work hard at those subjects because you enjoy them.
Getting the best grades you can is more important than having the career in mind at this stage. (If you know absolutely what you want to do at this age then
1. you are in the minority
2. You are lucky but will probably change your mind by the time you get to working in that field.
3.you would be tied into working in subjects you may not like and so may not succeed!
Enjoy study for it's own merits while you can and opportunities will arise as you progress.
Good luck and above all ENJOY the learning for itself!

  • I'm in s4 too...
In my school there's a photography higher that you can do, you should see if there's anything like that on offer. You could also try and find out about crashing art at higher, or just leave it and do some kind of part time course in design in a couple of years time.
