Resolved Question
When writing a covering letter for a job, how are you supposed to address it?
I've written a covering letter for a job application, and I just need to check that my wording is correct for this sort of letter.
What are you supposed to put when you know the name of the person your supposed to write to? Like do you write "To Mr [surname]" or "Dear Mr [surname]"
Can someone explain what you have to put for this please? Also, im 95% sure you end a letter like this "Yours Sincerely" - is that right

Start your letter Dear Mr Jones. Finish it Yours sincerely, sign your name underneath.
Also, put your address at the top on the right hand side, with the date underneath.
Good luck with your application.

My mum ( a secretary ) tells me the rule is.
If you've met them, sign off is yours faithfully.
Not met them, sign off yours sincerely.
Good luck hope your application succeeds. - Dear Mr [surname] and Yours Sincerely.
Never To, I don't know where on earth you saw that. If it was Dear Sir then it would be Yours Faithfully. Don't put Dear Sir or Madam, Sir / Madam, always assume Sir when you don't know the name.
